Media Release: Inspired by “The Beauty of Our Dreams”, eco-fashion label Audrey Blue launches summer 2012 Collection

20 August, 2012 Activist and Greens candidate Dr Hannah Parris is delighted to release the summer 2012-13 collection of her eco-fashion label Audrey Blue. Inspired by the words of Eleanor Roosevelt: The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams, the second collection of Audrey Blue is taking another step towards forging a new clean future for Australian fashion.

“The future of fashion lies in cleaning up the supply chain and addressing the environmental and social problems created by our love of clothes,” said Hannah, who is putting her principles into practice as owner and designer of Audrey Blue. “Our collections prove that being transparent and ethical can deliver stylish, affordable and accessible clothes to women.”

The Beauty of Our Dreams collection continues the Audrey Blue eco-fashion model of using organic and fair trade cotton sourced during Hannah’s travels to India.

“Our garment producer Rajlakshmi Cotton Mills is located in Kolkata, India, and uses cotton grown by farmers in the Chetna Organic Cooperative from central India. Both organizations are certified under international fairtrade and organic standards and are committed to implementing social and environmental programs within their communities,” Hannah said.

An economist with a PhD from ANU, Hannah has a long background in ACT and federal politics with the Greens. Her fashion label harnesses those values and gives women the opportunity to wear their hearts on their sleeves.

“Consumers want clothes that reflect their ethical values and, by and large, the industry has failed to respond to this demand. Unlike other fashion labels, we are happy to make our supply chain transparent, certified by independent parties and accountable to customers. We believe that supply chain transparency and certification is critical to improving the environmental and social impact of the industry. It will also allow consumers to feel confident that when they purchase eco-fashion they are getting what they’ve paid for.”

Audrey Blue is proud to be a certified under international Fair Trade Labelling Organisation and Australian Certified Organic standards.

Launched this week, the summer collection continues the Audrey Blue tradition of giving women quality pieces designed to take them from the boardroom to nights out to weekends with kids.

Hannah is running in the upcoming ACT elections on October 20 as a Greens candidate for Ginninderra.
